Sanibel Island Named Top Place to Visit in 2025 by Travel + Leisure

Published: 11/26/2024  |  Updated: 04/28/2025

We’re thrilled that Sanibel Island was named one of “The 50 Places to Travel in 2025” by Travel + Leisure magazine, one of the leading travel publications in the world. As one of Florida's hidden gems rimmed with white-sand beaches and offering amazing shelling, our beloved island won a place in the “For Beach Vibes” category, snagging one of only six spots - and the only beach destination in Florida to do so. Considering Travel + Leisure compiled this list from destinations around the world, we’re quite honored Sanibel Island made the list, fortifying the Fort Myers area as one of the best places to vacation on the Gulf Coast.

As Travel + Leisure explains, to make their list is more than “a hotly anticipated opening or two.” They chose Sanibel Island because it’s one of the places that feels "of the moment” and is “worthy of a closer look in the year ahead.”

That closer look is sure to reveal the resilience Sanibel Island and other areas in our destination have showcased recently. After experiencing three hurricanes with varying degrees of impact in two years, it's heartwarming to see our charming accommodations, attractions, restaurants and shops welcoming visitors back.
